The NEW Essential Rewards Explained!

If you're like me you started out with Young Living as sort of a skeptic. I thought-- I will get the Premium Starter Kit because it's a small investment and a good deal. If the oils don't do all the things that I hoped, I can at least use the diffuser as a glorified air freshener. Boy, was I wrong to be doubtful! Young Living not only has amazing oils and products, but they have a very generous rewards program.

When I signed up I was asked if I wanted to join Essential Rewards. She said if I thought I would be ordering more than 50 PV (point value or $50)  a month regularly I should sign up for their auto ship rewards program. At the time I thought no way! That's a lot of money to commit to every month.

Once I got my oils and started using them I immediately regretted not signing up for Essential Rewards immediately. Think of all those lost points! :)

Let me break down what exactly Essential Rewards is and how it works since Young Living has recently changed the program and we are now earning even MORE back plus loyalty gifts as well. :)

Essential Rewards (ER) is Young Living's Monthly

Auto Ship Rewards Programs:

  • Fill your cart with the items you want and change it whenever you want until your order processes on the day (at midnight) of your choosing every month.
  • Reduced shipping and change your shipping day monthly if you like.

  • Earn Points towards FREE Products (use points earned like cash later!)
    • 1-3 months - earn 10% of your point value back
    • 4-24 months - earn 20% of your point value back
    • 25+ months- earn 25% of your point value back
  • Loyalty Gifts at 3, 6, 9, and a special Loyalty blend at 12 months! See the graphic below for details!

It's important to mention that each item has a point value that is usually equal to it's cost. For instance if an item is $115 it's point value will likely be 115. Look for the PV column next to the cost column. Some non oil items are not equal to the cost, so always double check!

Each month if you hit 190PV, 250PV, or 300PV you earn FREE loot! Here is the September 2016 promo as an example. The items will be added automatically to your order if you hit these point values.

Now, how do you sign up?

1. You can sign up for the Essential Rewards program immediately when you sign up as a Wholesale Member with Young Living.

2. You can sign up later after you've become a Wholesale Member either by calling customer care (1.800.371.3515) or signing in to your Young Living Account and clicking on Essential Rewards in the right hand column.

3. If you signed up as a retail customer and would like to take advantage of all the perks and privileges of becoming a Wholesale Member and enroll in the Essential Rewards Program you can call customer care and they will help you switch your retail account to a wholesale one. (1.800.371.3515)

I hope that you take advantage of all the perks that come with being a Wholesale Member and an Essential Rewards participant. Who doesn't like free stuff and rewards programs these days?

All About Slique!

Guest Blog by Jessica Phelps:

Hi everyone! My name is Jessica and I have been using oils for almost two years now. I use essential oils everyday for almost anything you can think of. I recently started using some new products from Young Living called Slique. What is Slique? It is a line of products Young Living carries to help with weight management. I have just finished my first week using the Slique Shake and Slique Essence essential oil. Below is my take on the Slique products I have tried so far.

Slique Shake is a naturally flavored, complete meal replacement shake. It comes in just one flavor, Berry Breeze. It comes in 15 individual pre measure packets. I really like that it comes in their own individual packets, that way you can throw one in your purse on busy days. I have used so many meal replacement shakes and this one is by far my favorite! The chalky taste/texture you get with a lot of shake mixes is not there with Slique. I didn't get creative when it came to preparing my shakes. So far I have mixed it with fat free milk and orange juice (delicious!). You can add oils, fruit, or even veggies in the shake for added flavor and health benefits. The flavor with just milk or orange juice is great and very helpful since I usually prepare it at work where I don't have access to a blender.

For the last week I have been drinking one shake for lunch with a light healthy snack. I have been eating a small breakfast and cut back to one cup of coffee. To be completely honest dinner has been hit or miss on being healthy (I am getting better). As of now I haven't added much exercise besides some walks with the kids  a few times a week. I have not weighed myself since I started Slique, but I can feel a difference already. I have been having issues with bloating and trouble fitting into my pants. After this last week I can visibly see my belly has thinned out and my pants are starting to fit better. The feeling of being bloated went away after a few days. Overall, I feel way more healthy this last week than I have in a long time. I am sure I have lost weight and especially inches around my waist!

The other product I used along side the replacement shake is the Slique Essence an essential oil blend. It comes in a 15ml bottle which is awesome because this is a product you can inhale or drink on a daily basis. The ingredients in Slique Essence are tangerine, grapefruit, spearmint, stevia extract, lemon, and ocotea. The spearmint taste is strong, so if you don't like that you may want to add some other citrus oils. I thought it tasted really good and worked like a detox the first few days. The sweet spearmint taste really helped with my sugar cravings and I noticed I didn't snack as much as I normally do. Both these products along side each other are a great combo and I am really excited to try the other Slique products.

There are so many Slique products offered by Young Living, so also have collections of their Slique products to make it easy to figure out what works well together and how you can use them together to reach your weight loss goals. Below are some of the other Slique products offered by Young Living.

5 Ways Daily Detox

Five Ways To Daily

Guess what....You need to detox! We all do and can truly benefit from a good (safe) detox. I am a believer in listening to what your body is telling you, and starting a detox should be the same way. Whatever detox regimen you choose I have a few daily tips to keep your body on track.

Reasons to Start a Detox

  1. Rid body of environmental toxins
  2. Help body systems function better
  3. Aid in digestion
  4. Support healthy weight
  5.  Improve mood
  6. Decrease fatigue

Steps to Eliminate The Toxins:

  1. Chemical free home
  2. Healthy organic food
  3. Chemical free personal care products
  4. Be mindful of air quality

Five Ways to Detox Daily

Water Intake:

Drink a minimum of 70 oz of CLEAN water (or half of your body weight in water) every single day. Water naturally supports your body’s natural elimination/detoxifying process. Drink a fluoride free, filtered water. To increase detoxification you can add distilled water to your regimen, which acts like a vacuum to pull heavy metals from your body.  Add your citrus essential oils to your water to aid in the cleansing process in your body.  Citrus Vitality essential oils can help detoxify your fat cells making it easier for your body to use the “clean” fat to burn for energy.  Fat is a first line of defense for toxins, so by cleaning your fat cells of toxins your body will have a smoother appearance (wink) and your body will use the fat for energy.

Exercises:

Workout every single day, even if it is only for 10 minutes. Increased circulation aids in natural detoxification, to increase circulation you need to increase blood flow.  Walking, stretching, Yoga, Biking, and aerobics are all great ways to get your blood pumping and support detoxification.  Lemongrass and cypress are both essential oils that aid in health circulation.

Get Your Greens On:

Eat greens every day, whether it is a big salad or green smoothie, find a way to fit in fresh green.  If you have a hard time getting greens into your diet start out small, add a side salad with lunch or add kale to a morning smoothie. This is the list of detoxifying foods:
Avocados, Asparagus, Artichoke, Beets, Broccoli, Cabbage, Dandelions, Garlic, Ginger, Grapefruit , Kale, and Wheat grass.
If you need help in the greens area you can also take a daily MultiGreens Capsule from Young Living.

Sleep:

Your body cleanses itself while you sleep, with the liver doing a lot of its dirty work in the early morning hours. Pulling an all-nighter, or even staying up to watch a late night show will put you in a position to miss out on the deeper sleep cycles that occur before midnight. Be sure to get up early as well, because you don’t sleep through the hours when your body naturally wants to purge itself of waste. Letting your bowel movement fester, or holding back your urine until later in the morning can lead to it being reabsorbed by the body.

The Happy Hormone Guide

Oh hormones...we all have to deal and some of us more than others (like me). I will highlight a few products I use to support my emotional wellness.  You can also check out the Young Living website for other amazing supplements and products to use.

Progessence Plus Serum

Progesterone plays a role in helping to maintain pregnancy, helping prepare the body for conception and pregnancy. It also aids in regulating the monthly menstrual cycle and plays a role in sexual desire.
The hormone is produced in the ovaries, the placenta (when a woman gets pregnant) and the adrenal glandsIt can prevent changes in the uterus in women taking estrogen after menopause. It can also treat menstrual periods that have stopped before menopause.

According to the National University of Natural Medicine research is surfacing  that the benefits of progesterone apply to breast health, cardiovascular health, and nervous system health, most importantly brain function. Cool!

Progesterone is a hormone found in both men and women that is generally associated with women’s health.

Progessence™Plus serum, intended only for woman, is an option for those looking to supplement progesterone levels. Expertly formulated by D. Gary Young and Dr. Dan Purser, Progessence Plus takes pure, USP-grade, super-micronized progesterone from wild yams and combines it with vitamin E and an essential oil serum to easily penetrate the skin for improved delivery. Containing frankincense, bergamot, and peppermint essential oils to aid in absorption.

You do not need to alternate where you apply this serum, as that is the case with most cream based progesterone supplements.

According to Dr. Purser, some of the common unwanted effects of menopause that adequate levels of progesterone can help support or minimize include:
  • Hot flashes
  • Night sweats
  • Fatigue
  • Insomnia
  • Increased wrinkles
  • Weight gain and muscle loss (sarcopenia)
  • Memory issues
If you have not gotten on board with this serum...do it and thank me later!

Thyromin

Thyromin A natural thyroid supplement to support healthy thyroid function. It is a special blend of porcine glandular extracts, herbs, amino acids, minerals, and therapeutic-grade essential oils. This balanced formula maximizes nutritional support for healthy thyroid function. From my personal experience this supplement was very helpful in resolving my thyroid related issues, and from my research this natural form of thyroid powder is the way to go.

This supplement was a game changer for me and I still take it daily. Here is a list of things that can be affected by a sluggish thyroid:
  • weight gain
  • lethargy
  • poor quality hair and nails
  • hair loss
  • dry skin
  • fatigue
  • cold hands and feet
  • constipation

Dragon Time

Oh how I love Dragon Time essential oil blend, it is designed to encourage positive emotions for women, especially during our monthly cycle. This blend is recommended for both young and mature women. I cannot say enough about how this oil blend has changed my emotional well-being, and the sanity of everyone else in my house!

I like to apply this one to my neck, right over my thyroid on behind my ears.

 Australian Blue

Australian Blue is a blend packed full of essential oils that can help support emotional flare ups. I use this oil daily to help feel grounded and calm. This one has such a warm and inviting scent, would be great for teenage boys.

All Ingredinets:

I Got My Kit..Now What?

Got my kit...now what?

You got your kit...now what?  We can all remember how exciting it was to get that beautiful box with all of those little oils, but how do we start using them?  Below I outline a few ways to get the ball rolling with using your oils.

Get Them Out of The Box

Yes the Premium Starter box is beautiful and even has a way to keep them on display...but you will never get into a great essential oil routine until you get them out of the box! Getting them out of the box allows you to have an oil at an arms reach when you need them.  Remember you have not used essential oils before, so why would you use them now unless it is very easy.  Seeing that bottle of lemon sitting by your sink will remind you to add a drop to your water...placing lavender on your nightstand will prompt you to apply to your big toe before bed...place your Stress Away in your bag and apply before work. You get the picture, the easier it is to grab the more likely you are to use them.

What Were Your Health Goals?

When you decided to buy the Premium Starter kit what were your reasons? Did someone have a good testimony that really stuck with you? Did you here all the cool uses and felt that these little oils might be a good investment? Whatever the reason you bought the kit is what your focus should be now that you have the kit.  Sit down and write out your health goals and focus on that as your first oil goal.

Get Out Your Reference Guide

How are you to use these oils and know what oil is good for this or that? Your Reference guides! If you don't have one, Google "Essential Oil Reference Guide" and a million will pop-up.  Look at the reviews or ask whoever signed you up to recommend a book for you to use. You can even research your health goals or specific oil on Pinterest.  YOU are in control and must take this step to becoming an oily ninja.  Once you know which oil or oils to use, start using them often.

Safety

This is an important part of using essential oils. I would never use any oil outside of Young Living, why? because I did my research and only stand behind Young Living's quality and commitment to the Seed to Seal promise.  Number one safety tip...when (not if) you get essential oils in your eye, use a carrier oil (olive, coconut, almond ect.) and rub it around the outside of your eye to relieve the burning.  Water will drive the oil deeper, a fatty oil with dilute the oil.  Do not put oils directly into your eyesor ears on purpose...and dilute if it happens.  Use glass or stainless steel to drink your citrus oils out of...these oils will breakdown the petrochemicals in the plastic and ruin your cups.  Dilute oils on children and pets, also use a vita flex chart for ease of use with little ones.  Start using your oils slowly, they will detox your body (yay!) but we don't want that to happen too fast. When applying any citrus oil topically avoid the direct sun on that part of your skin for 12-24 hours.

Complimentary Products

There are a million products on the market for using our essential oils and making it even easier. From travel bags, roller top bottles, containers, and capsules you can find many ways to incorporate essential oils into your life.
Two products I think everyone should order from YoungLiving.com after they get a kit are the roller fitments and veggie capsules:

AromaGlide Roller Fitments 10 pk item number 4578

Get to a Class and Host a Class

Going to classes is not only a great way to learn more but to make some great oily friends. I must be so dense because I learn something new at every single class I attend, which is awesome.  Some of the best people I have met have been through Young Living and hosting classes. It is so great to see people meeting their health goals and is the main reason I still host classes monthly.  Host a class...everyone should be sharing why they love Young Living essential oils, you do not have to be an expert to have a class, you can just share what you know or have your leader come and teach for you!

Wish List

With every Premium Starter Kit comes a Young Living catalog...open it and start making the products you think will benefit you!  There are dozens of wonderful products to help rid your life of toxins, maintain great health, and support every system in you body. When I opened the catalog I love that all the oil blends are labeled so you would know which one you need like "Common Sense" "Forgiveness" and "Joy".  I personally love the supplements and have made some break throughs in my health personally by getting in a good supplement habit.

Cook With Your Oils

There are so many ways to use essential oils in your life and my favorite is to add them to my drinks and food. The title is misleading because cooking is not my thing...but yummy tasting food is.  Essential oils should not expire for a very LONG time...making them great to use as seasoning! When I went through my seasoning cabinet I was shocked that most expired ten years ago...Gross. The best part of using essential oils for cooking is it only takes a drop in your already planned recipe and BAM the flavor is amazing! Thieves in your morning cup of coffee....Peppermint added to your favorite dessert...lemon added to your smoothie.  The list goes on and Young Living even has an awesome kit with a variety of oils for your kitchen..The Young Living Culinary Collection.

Post Convention Blog!

We are fresh with the excitement of spending the last week at the 2016 Young Living Convention and we wanted to share some of our experiences with you. Convention truly isn't just for business minded oil users, its also for those who want to educate themselves about their oil use as well. There is so much to do at convention-- you get to attend the general session each day where they announce the newest products and changes to Young Living, you get to go to the Expo and try all the new products, smell EVERY oil that Young Living carries, you get the chance to hear incredibly inspiring and passionate people speak, and mostly you get to have a TON of fun and connect with friends from all over the world.

I asked my sister to think up some questions she had about our convention experience, and below both Christina Valenzuela and I will answer them. I hope you can join us at convention next year!

1. Were you oily star struck?

Christina V: Yes...but my sweet friend told me to hold it together...but we saw EVERYONE..and it was very cool.

Christina H: Not really. I saw a TON of people that are “oily celebrities”, but I’m not really the personality to go up to those I don’t know. I did get a little excited to meet Susan Heid though. She’s rad.

2. How much should I save to go to convention next year? How much did you spend?

Christina V:  I would save 100 a month (Tip: Just save some of your YL check) and that will be more than enough.  I was lucky to have gone with someone who made me lunch and snacks everyday.  We also had a great free breakfast included at our hotel.  Depending on what you can swing, this trip can be done on a budget for sure.  Don’t let the money be the reason you go or don’t go...this is a life changing and inspiring event, worth every sacrifice to make it happen!

Christina H: I would say to save at least $1000-$1200. However, this can be done on the super cheap. Sharing a room with more than one person can cut the cost dramatically. We spent just over $800 on our room, but only split it two ways. Buying some wine and food to have in your room is also a huge money saver. We didn’t waste time standing in line and didn’t spend $10 on each meal. I did splurge a little however, we went out for a few meals and a few drinks, just not all of them. I got a raindrop massage at the YL Spa and that cost my $100. I also spent around $200 on materials from vendors-- shirts, bottles, books, things like that. If you are able to book your travel early as well as buy your convention ticket during early bird pricing that will help as well.

3. What did you learn at convention that you didn’t already know?

Christina V: That positive thoughts versus negative thoughts have a huge impact on your life and success potential. I may not seem negative to those who “know” me but I have a hard time being content with where I am at in this business and really beat myself up.  I learned to focus on positive thoughts and really following through. Loved that Young Living is such a giving company, I didn’t know how giving until convention.  They are involved in so many countries and help so many people, it was so inspiring.  Young Living also pays all the expenses for their Foundation, and our donations go directly to the people they are helping, very cool!

Christina H: Young Living just keeps blowing me away. Each year they strive to be the best and no other EO company can touch them. Last year we struggled with the FDA crackdown, and they just took what was a negative and turned it into a huge success for the company and all of us. We are now the only company that has FDA approved over the counter medicines.

4. How much Ningxia Red did you drink?

Christina V: More than I thought I could.  Christina H. is a Ningxia beast and could have had more, but I think I held her back a few times.  I love black pepper and Frankincense in my ningxia shot, and the ningxia slushies are a revelation.
Christina H: A ridiculous amount. Ridiculous. At the expo they have “Club Red” where you can buy shots of Ningxia with as many oils as your heart desires for $2!!! You can also get Ningxia slushies, and other YL snacks. It’s amazing and really addicting.

5. Do you have any convention do’s and dont’s?

Christina V: Do leave enough room for items you want to buy, I got a Dewdrop diffuser for hecka cheap and that took up some room. Do bring clothes that are both comfortable, and good for hot weather.  Don’t miss out on next year’s convention.  Don’t hesitate to get into the classes you wanted but didn’t get to sign up for in time (they will let you in).
Christina H: Do stay at the Hampton Inn. We got a hot breakfast everyday (another money saver!), and a coffee bar 24 hours a day. Christina V. really enjoyed drinking hot cocoa at all hours of the day. It was only about a 10 minute walk from the convention center. Don’t get stressed out about not getting the perfect seat or being able to book all the right sessions. Young Living is really good about making things right and honestly, you won’t be disappointed. I promise.

6. What were some of the oils you smelled that are on your must have list now?

Christina V: Hmmm I pretty much smelled them all (and saved the test strips lol) I loved these blends: Build Your Dream, Hope and Present Time.  The single oils I have to have are Lemon Myrtle, Mastrante, and Palo Santo.
Christina H: This is a hard one, because I want ALL THE OILS! But, it was the emotional oils I was drawn to like Harmony and Magnify Your Purpose that I really loved.

7. What was your biggest take away?

Christina V: To never give up. This has been the most personal growth year of my life, and I feel stretched after going to convention.  Everyone from every age group and walk of life was represented at convention in all types of ranks, it was very encouraging. I am proud to be a part of a company that loves people and has an honest goal of helping others.

Christina H: To work my strengths, not just in my business, but in life. I think as moms and business owners we try to do everything ourselves, but it's ok to let others take care of things for you or ask for help. That’s why The Crossline Christinas is so great. We are able to contribute and help each other and play off each other's strengths.

One last thing--- The Farm! You get to visit the Mona Lavender Farm and it is a life changing experience to walk in the fields, witness the distillation and bottling, and just experience the beauty of it all. Young Living lays out the red carpet for everyone who visits and it was a highlight of the trip.

Live Your Passion!

It's June, so that means convention is finally upon us!!! Yay!!! I couldn't be more excited to go in just a few weeks. This will be my second year attending, and the "other" Christina's first year. Going with her will make it so much more enjoyable and fun. Don't get me wrong last year was amazing, but I was bummed not to have my partner in crime with me. Convention 2016 is taking place in Salt Lake City, Utah this year and we have so many more exciting things to look forward to since its in Young Living's home turf.

I'm still a newbie to the convention world, but I want to share with you what I'm looking forward to this year and a couple tips I learned last year.

Farm Day: We didn't get a farm day last year since convention was in Dallas. This year is a different story since we are at the home base, Utah. Farm day was a small fee, but it included transportation and a lunch, which is rad. We can stay at the farm from 10am-5pm, and I imagine Christina and I just might! I am really looking forward to walking out as far as possible into the lavender fields and just getting lost. I've heard they have lavender lemonade stands, and other fun farm things (whatever that means) for us to do.

Foundation Festival: This is the party that kicks off convention Wednesday night. There is a rad performance from Recycled Percussion that we can participate for a small donation (all benefiting the Young Living Foundation). Last year the opening event also included appetizers and dessert, so hopefully this year will too. This year seems to be more of a carnival theme with games and lots of action packed fun. The opening event really sets the ton for the whole convention.

Young Living Spa: This is a MUST! Whether you are getting a raindrop massage, a regular massage, or a facial you won't be disappointed. Last year my raindrop massage was amazing and I loved how I felt afterward. They really know how to make you feel pampered.

Fun Tips:

Eating At Convention: Food can get pricey. I purposefully booked a hotel that included breakfast to help cut costs. I will also go to the store and get pre made salads, some snack foods to carry with me, bottled water, and of course wine. Doing this will cut costs A TON. I don't want to shell out $10-$20 each meal. I plan to go out for some drinks and likely a couple dinners with team mates and cross line friends for sure, but I don't want to be eating out for every meal.

What To Wear: Officially, the dress code is business casual. I do not suggest going out and buying a whole new wardrobe. That being said, last year there was a WIDE variety (use your imagination) of attire and I expect this year to be no different. I plan to be comfortable and still look nice. I'm planning on nice jeans paired with a blouse, or leggings and a nice shirt. On farm day I will wear shorts. Please keep in mind that every day you will be walking A TON! Like, a ridiculous amount. Wear comfortable shoes or you will be sorry.

What To Bring: Last year I carried a large (think diaper bag sized) bag with me. I liked it because it had two handles-- one for over the shoulder and one for across my body. It was a sturdy bag that fit everything I needed while being out and about all day. I carried my water bottle, snacks, oils (obviously), a note book and pens, business cards, portable phone charger, and other random items with me all day. It was nice to have a bag that worked well and didn't feel over loaded.

Don't Worry, Be Happy: Seriously. This is the most important one. Will you make it to all the break out sessions you wanted? Nope. Will you get the farm day with your team? Probably not. Were they sold out of the rad diffuser you wanted? Yep. Things happen. The week won't go completely as planned and YL will have some logistically issues. Should we lose our minds? Please don't. YL stepped up last year and fixed some major issues they had with break out sessions and I know that they are working hard to get things as perfect as possible this year. Convention is so freakin fun if you relax and just enjoy every moment. People are fun. Meeting your team and connecting with people you only see on Facebook otherwise is amazing! Convention is so good for your soul and a huge motivator if you let it.

Young Living featured the convention and things to do in Salt Lake on their podcast. Check it out here. You can also check out some of their picks for food and fun in the area as well as download a printable guide of the area. Genius!

Look out for our convention wrap up blog after we get home at the end of June. Also, follow us on Twitter. We will both be live tweeting the events and breakouts we attend.
