The Healthy Kid Protocol

The Healthy Kid Protocol

Healthy kids! I know for so many of us we have a protocol for our littles when they are down for the count...but what is your wellness routine? I want to focus on keep and supporting our children's health in this blog post.  Here are my tips and a few I picked up from some close friends on supporting our children's wellness:

Essential Oils (Obviously):

Don't only oil your littles to get them out of a slump, instead oil on the regular. I use a wellness blend on my kids feet in the morning, chest rub before bed, bath salts, and diffuser blend daily here are my recipes:

Chest Rub:

  • 1/4 Shea butter
  • 1/4 coconut oil
  • 5 Drops Frankincense
  • 5 Drops Rosemary
  • 3 Drops Lavender

Wellness Blend:

  • 15ml empty bottle
  • 10 Drops Thieves
  • Grape seed oil

Bath Salts:

  • 1/2 cup Epsom salts
  • 5 Drops Melrose
  • 5 Drops Tea Tree

Diffuser Blend:

  • 5 Drops Cedarwood
  • 5 Drops Lavender

Supplements:

I love using supplements and so do my kids. Here is my list, and yes there are many companies that sell children's supplements, keep in mind high quality and always read the labels. I use Young Living for most of my children's supplements, here is my list:

Nutrition:

We all know that kids can be so picky about what they eat and getting them to eat the good stuff can be tough.  Here are two ways to get your kids to eat healthier, that have worked for my littles:

Juicing:

  • 2 Carrots,1  apples, hand full spinach
  • 1 Orange, 2 celery stalks, 1 apple
  • 4 Pineapple rings, 2 carrots, 1 apples

Smoothies:

Get a good quality protein powder or meal replacement with your favorite add-ins:
  • Nut Butter
  • Yogurt
  • Spinach
  • Flax meal
  • Mineral Essence
  • Honey
  • Avocado
  • Kefir
  • Coconut Water
There is so much on the topic of kids health...this is a short list and a good place to start!

My Favorite Young Living Personal Care Products

Since I started my Young Living journey a couple years ago, I have slowly been replacing MANY things in my house with essential oils or essential oil infused products. Replacing the over the counter medications and cleaning products was easy. However, replacing my personal care products has been much harder. I have just been trying to conquer one item and one room at a time.

Have you ever taken the time to look at some of the ingredients in the products you use on your body each day? When the list of ingredients is ridiculously long and I can't pronounce half of them, then that is usually a bad sign. Instead of spending hours on the internet looking up the ingredients and scaring yourself half to death in the processes; make your life easier and get an app called: "Think Dirty" This app has been a game changer for me. You can search or even scan items while you are out shopping to see how it rates on their scale of 1-10. It tells you what kind of harmful chemicals or additives a product has and what kind of negative effect it can have on your body. This app makes it easy for even the busiest person to make sounds decisions for their family while on the go.

Of course Young Living also has a lot of great home, and personal care products as well. I was a little tentative to begin this process because of the price point of many of the products, but I am happy to report that everything I have tried lasts much long and does a far better job too! Below I will outline a few of the items that I have replaced in the personal care department.

Lavender Hand and Body Lotion: The first item that I want to highlight is the first personal care item that I tried. A friend of mine that also uses Young Living recommended it to me for my youngest daughter's dry skin. Nothing has ever worked so well on her skin. A little goes a long way. I use this item on her daily and only have to buy one every 3 months.

Lip Balm: I am a self proclaimed lip balm addict and I think it must be hereditary because so is my daughter. We love the Lavender the most, but you really can't go wrong with any of the Young Living lip balms.

Toothpaste: Young Living actually carries two types of toothpaste, plus a children's toothpaste as well. Everyone in my house, including the kids enjoy the Aromabright toothpaste the best. It's a little unusual at first because it doesn't foam like the toothpaste you are use to using, but it will leave your mouth ridiculously clean and fresh. This toothpaste has greatly improved my oral health.

Deodorant: Finding a natural deodorant that actually works was really hard! I had tried almost all the other brands out there. It wasn't until I made the switch to Young Living that I finally found one that kept me dry and stink free! :)

Kids Personal Care Items: In full disclosure I have not been able to try these on my kids. Why? Because they are so popular that they are normally sold out! I guess I can assume that they are awesome! Non toxic and a super cute label. You can't go wrong there!

Bath and Shower Gels: I have had a chance to try these and absolutely love them!  Its an invigorating way to start the day with such an aromatic experience.

Shampoo and Conditioner: Young Living has a couple Shampoo and Conditioner combinations to choose from, but I prefer the Lavender and Mint. The mint and the lavender together smells great and this shampoo and conditioner does not make my scalp itchy like I experienced before with other shampoos. A little goes a long way too, even in my super thick hair.

Skin Care: This is just a a couple of the MANY face care products that Young Living carries. The Orange Blossom Facial Wash and Satin Mint Facial Scrub are both wildly popular and leave your face feeling refreshed and amazingly clean.

Like I said above, these are just a few of the personal care products that Young Living has to offer. Log onto your Virtual Office and explore some of the many categories of products. If you are not on Essential Rewards yet now is the time! You can use some of your points to try out new products. This month's promotion is amazing. Take advantage of it by buying gifts for others and yourself!

Kid and Essential Oils

For many people the reason for starting a wellness regimen using essential oils includes using them on our children.  I know for myself I felt empowered as a mother to be able to support my children's health with essential oils.

I wanted take a minute to outline some basics on essential oil use for children including safety, recommended oils for children, and my 3 go-to recipes.

5 Safety Tips:
When it comes to our children we want the best, which is why I chose Young Living essential oils over any other essential oil company.  If you have not chosen a company to purchase essential oils from watch this video on Seed to Seal. What we use on our children is important, which is why I did not mess around with using any old essential oil offering at my local health food store. We use Young Living because it is the purest product on the market.

Here are a few tips for safety when using essential oils on children:

  1. Dilute with a carrier oil before application. I use coconut oil for making balms and grape seed when making a blend. I dilute at a 1:20 (or more) ratio for my children, essential oils very concentrated which translates to a little goes a long way.
  2. Apply essential oils to the feet.  The feet have the largest pores in the body and a great way to target specific areas of the body using a vita flex chart.  Plus the feet are a less sensitive area of the body making for an ideal location for essential oil application.
  3. Keep essential oils out of reach.  Essential oils should not be kept in a place where a child could reach and use.  All of my essential oils are kept in cabinets out of reach of my children. If an essential oil is used without supervision and irritation occurs DO NOT use water, use a carrier oil on the area or around for eyes.
  4. Keep essential oils out of sensitive areas.  Never drop essential oils directly into the ear canal, this goes for everyone not just children.  Don't apply essential oils around the nose, mouth, or eyes, these are all sensitive areas and should be avoided.
  5. Use an essential oil reference guide. There are so many great essential oil reference guides for using with children, here are two books that I like to use  Gentle Babies and Dr.Mom Essential Oils First Aid

Recommended Oils for Children:
