DIY Gifts with Essential Oils


With the holidays just around the corner I thought it would be a good idea to share some awesome DIY essential oil infused gifts.

These gifts will not break the bank and they are also made with Young Living essential oils, making them that much more amazing!

You will want have containers and all ingredients for the recipes below before starting. Obviously all essential oils referenced are Young Living and you can sign up to order them at Essential oil enjoyment or Living oils daily.  For other supplies you can shop at Bulk Apothecary or Amazon.

For some of the recipes below I will include alternative essential oil options or you can come up with your own blends.


Pampering Gifts:


Soothing Bath Soak-

  • 1/2 cup Epsom salt
  • 1/2 cup Kosher salt
  • 1 Tbsp non-aluminum baking soda
  • 10 drops Lavender Essential oil
  1. Combine the salt and baking soda in a bowl and mix thoroughly using a whisk 
  2. Add the essential oils and mix all ingredients together 
  3. Place mixture in containers for gifting
Alternative essential oil options: Stress Away, Eucalyptus Radiata, Joy.

Refreshing Sugar Scrub-

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup sugar in the raw
  • 1/3 cup grape seed oil (or Olive, Almond, Caster, Jojoba jojoba) 
  • 10 drops Peppermint essential oil
  1. Combine the two type of sugar in a bowl and mix to combine
  2. Add the essential oils and grape seed oil and mix thoroughly. If needed add more grape seed oil for a thinner texture. 
  3. Place mixture in containers for gifting
Alternative essential oil options: Lavender, Orange, Citrus Fresh

Body Wash-

  • 1/2 cup liquid Castile soap 
  • 1/4 cup almond oil (Olive, Grape seed, fractionated Coconut)
  • 1/4 cup Caster oil
  • 10 Drops Lemon
  • 10 Drops Eucalyptus 
  1. Mix almond oil, caster oil and essential oils together in a bowl
  2. Slowly mix in the Castile soap as to not create suds
  3. Place mixture in container (pump container works best) 
Alternative essential oil options Lavender, Bergamot, Geranium, Orange

Lip Balm-

  • 1/4 cup almond or grape seed oil
  • 1/4 cup Shea butter
  • 1/2 cup bees or soy wax
  1. Measure your oil and butter into a heatproof glass measuring cup. Microwave a minute or two until melted. You can also melt the mixture by setting the glass measuring cup in a pan of gently boiling water.
  2. Add the wax to the measuring cup to also melt, be careful the glass measuring cup will get hot
  3. Take a stainless steel spoon and mix everything together. Pull the spoon out and wait a few minutes until what’s left on the spoon hardens. Test this to see if it’s hard or soft enough for your liking. Make your adjustments now (adding more oil if you want it softer, or more wax if you like it harder)
  4. When the consistency is where you want it, add 10 drops of an Peppermint essential oil
  5. Carefully pour into clean lip balm tubes or tins
Alternative essential oil options: Lavender, Orange, Citrus Fresh, Tea Tree


Gifts to Create Ambiance:

Room Spray-
  • 1 Cup distilled water
  • 2 Tbsp Vodka
  • 20 drops essential oils of choice 
  1. Combine water and vodka in spray bottle (if using citrus oils the bottle should be glass only)
  2. Add 20 drops of Lavender essential oil
  3. Shake all ingredients together 
Alternative essential oil options Thieves, Cinnamon bark, Ylang Ylang, Pine

Candles-
  • Soy wax or bees wax (amount depends on container size)
  • Smokeless wicks
  • 20-40 drops Essential oil of choice 
  1. Using a heat resistant glass measuring cup add the desired amount of wax (1/2 more then what would be needed to fill the container) melt in the microwave stirring every 30 seconds to prevent burning or place glass measuring cup in a sauce pan of simmering water stirring constantly until completely melted. 
  2. Pure a table spoon amount at the bottom center of the container and place wick, let the wax set before pouring the remainder of the wax.
  3. In the melted wax add 30-40 drops (for 1-2 cups of melted wax) of Cinnamon Bark essential oil and stir to evenly distribute.
  4. Pour the wax into the container, use a utensil to anchor the wick if it tilts to either side. 
  5. Let sit at room temperature to set

Alternative essential oil options Lemon, Lavender, Peppermint, Purification 

Carpet Freshener-
  • 1 cup baking soda
  • 15 drops purification essential oil
  1. Combine baking soda and essential oils to a jar close lid and shake to combine.
  2. Replace lid with one that has a shaker lid to make is easy to shake onto the carpet 

Alternative essential oil options Lemon, Lavender, Tea Tree


Gifts of Nourishment:


Pumpkin Spice Bread-

  • 3 cups of Pumpkin puree
  • 1 1/2 cups coconut oil
  • 4 cups of sugar
  • 6 eggs 
  • 4 3/4 cups of flour
  • 1 1/2 t baking powder
  • 1 1/2 t baking soda
  • 1 1/2 t salt 
  • 2 drops cinnamon essential oil 
  • 1 drop clove essential oil 

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees, flour and grease 3 medium, sized loaf pans
  2. Mix together pumpkin, oil, sugar and eggs in large bowl and set aside. In another bowl combine flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt, slowly stir into the pumpkin mixture. 
  3. Divide batter between pans evenly and bake for 45-60 minutes.  

Peppermint Fudge-


  • 3 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 5 drops of peppermint essential oil

  1. Place chocolate chips, sweetened condensed milk and butter in a sauce pan and heat on medium stirring until melted. 
  2. Remove from heat and mix in the 5 drops of peppermint essential oil
  3. Pour mixture into a well-greased  8x8 glass baking dish and refrigerate until set


For the Kids:

Play Dough-


1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup salt
  • 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1.5 tablespoons liquid cooking oil 
  • Food coloring
  • 6-8 drops of essential oils 
  1. In a sauce pan, stir the flour, salt, and cream of tartar together
  2. Add in the water, cooking oil, and food coloring and mix until smooth
  3. Turn on the heat to medium-low, and stir until the mixture forms a ball
  4. Once the mixture has reached play dough-consistency, remove it from the heat and allow it to cool for 3-4 minutes
  5. Knead in the essential oils of your choice (Lime, Orange, Bergamot, Lavender, Spearmint) 
  6. Store in air-tight container 


For the Men:


Cologne-
  • 1 Tbsp witch hazel
  • 1 tsp aloe vera get
  • 5 drops frankincense
  • 5 drops cedarwood essential oil
  • 3 drops pine essential oil
  • 5 drops eucalyptus essential oil
  1. Combine all in 2 oz container of choice and fill the rest of the way with distilled water 
Alternative essential oil options: Balsam Fir, Cypress, Clove, Lemon, Lime, Lavender

Shave Cream-
  • 1/3 cup Shea butter 
  • 1/3 cup coconut oil
  • 3 Tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp Castile soap
  • 8 Drops lavender essential oil
  1. In a sauce pan on low heat melt Shea butter and coconut oil together until liquid
  2. Pour liquid Shea butter and coconut oil in a glass bowl, let cool slightly and add essential oil and Castile soap, stir gently
  3. Place bowl in refrigerator for 30 min. to cool mixture
  4. Remove mixture from bowl and place in blender with olive oil and blend until combined.
  5. Scoop the whipped mixture into container
Alternative essential oil options: Cedarwood, Peppermint, Geranium, Rosemary, Tea Tree
